Summer 2023 has arrived, and Milan is already the immense stage of musical events not to be missed. Since mid-June, in fact, the city has been the scene of concerts and shows by the best Italian and international artists, and the Milanese calendar continues through September.
Many, many names and events are scheduled, starting with the closing act of the I-Days Milano Coca-Cola, on July 15, with Arctic Monkeys and The Hives, continuing then with the arrival of Ultimo, Blanco, Muse and Måneskin at the San Siro Stadium, and the many September dates for a summer 2023 in which musical events will continue to enliven Milan and ignite the public.
But let’s proceed in order, and find out how and when the spotlight will be turned on the shows of these extraordinary artists.
It is the turn of the indie band from Sheffield, on the music scene for 20 years now, to close the program of I-Days, one of Milan’s most anticipated music events of summer 2023. Sponsored by Coca-Cola, the music festival kicked off on June 22 with Florence + The Machine and featured top international guests such as Travis Scott, The Black Keys (along with former Oasis Liam Gallagher), Nothing But Thieves and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Known initially as the Independent Days Festival, the Milan music event has hosted some of the biggest names in world music over time: Arcade Fire, Blink 182, Green Day, Justin Bieber, Kasabian, Linkin Park, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Placebo, Queens Of The Stone Age, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Sonic Youth, The Killers, The Offspring, Tool, Velvet Revolver and many others.
The Arctic Monkeys concert on July 15 is scheduled at the La Maura Hippodrome and will therefore be the final act of the 2023 edition. Opening by Omini and Willie J Healey, then a set by The Hives and, finally, at 9:40 p.m. space for the main event by the band of Alexander Turner and James Cook. Gates open at 3 p.m., raincoats recommended in case of rain, not umbrellas.
As for the San Siro Stadium, on the other hand, after the big hits of Luciano Ligabue, Marco Mengoni, and Pinguini Tattici Nucleari (double date!), Depeche Mode, a cult British band of synth pop, new wave, and pop rock, headlined by Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, artists now on the world music scene for more than four decades, will perform in Milan on July 14.
Speaking of bands that have made history, Iron Maiden, the world’s most famous heavy metal band, comes to the San Siro Hippodrome on July 15.
Instead, the lights of San Siro Stadium will remain on for a long time, for two rising stars (but already established and loved by audiences not only Italian) of the national pop scene, such as Ultimo (double date July 17 and 18) and Blanco, at San Siro Stadium on July 20. They are followed by mega-events by Muse (July 22), and by the most internationally followed contemporary Italian group: the Måneskin, on stage July 24 and 25.
Music events in Milan for summer 2023 then continue in September, with two fiery weeks that will feature top shows and names. Il Volo, on Sept. 2 at TAM-Theatro Arcimboldi, the same setting that hosts the legendary Robert Plant, former leader of Led Zeppelin, on Sept. 5. Carroponte in Sesto San Giovanni, on the other hand, sees Manuel Agnelli (Sept. 7 for the historic voice of Afterhours), Tananai (Sept. 9) and Coma Cose (on Sept. 15) on stage.
Other illustrious names performing at other locations in the city include LAZZA (Sept. 8, Ippodromo Snai San Siro), the eclectic Bjork (Sept. 12 at the Forum di Assago) and Paola and Chiara (Sept. 15, Circolo Magnolia), who have returned to the live stage together to great success with audiences and listeners.
Ippodromo Snai la Maura, after hosting international artists such as the Artic Monkeys in July, will light up again with one of the most acclaimed voices of the Italian rap scene, Marrakesh (Sept. 23) with the first leg of his Marrageddon Festival tour.
The same light and sparkling atmosphere that invades Milan in the summer of 2023 thanks to an exciting program of musical events can also be felt at Hotel VIU Milan, the five-star hotel in the Paolo Sarpi area whose philosophy is to make all guests feel at home, even when they are far from home.
In fact, each guest at VIU is given a unique treatment, in which the encounter between services, hotel spaces, with the history of those who pass through them is transformed into a true experience of travel and welcome: to understand, and make live, luxury as emotion, not as matter.
Viulosophy can be experienced in all the rooms of Hotel VIU Milan, but a special summer flavor can definitely be found in VIU Terrace, the splendid terrace with swimming pool and 360° view of the city of Milan, the setting for aperitifs, parties and DJ sets. A perfect place also for relaxing and cool after-concerts (as Coma Cose sing) to be dedicated in this very hot summer 2023.
